About me.

My name is Ella DeJong,

I am living and working as a full-time artist in Durham, NC, where I was born into an artistically inclined family. I was homeschooled by my mother alongside my siblings, and from the time I could barely walk, my creativity had no boundaries. I’m so grateful for that foundation.

I want to be an artist because I am—and we all are. I believe making art connects you to your spirit and to love, granting you the ability to experience a creative freedom that is priceless. I am mesmerized and inspired daily by the beauty of God’s creation—every moment filled with love and artistry—and I aim to capture an essence of that magic and mystery in my work.

I view art as a story of the soul written in the language of vision and color. Paint is a form of energy manipulation, morphing with the movement of emotion, thought, love, and beauty through the mind’s eye—with the power to heal and unite.

I mostly work with acrylic paint due to its versatility, but I am fond of an array of different mediums including watercolor, spray paint, and illustration. I consider my artistic style to shift between impressionism, realism, and abstract. With constant growth comes constant change—that is my style. Each piece flows from a new wave of inspiration, spiraling toward newness. I'm still growing and developing with every piece, and I hope that never ends.

I painted my first mural in 2020 when I was 15, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. I’ve now completed ten, and I hope that number continues to grow. Immovable once imprinted, a mural will stand with the foundation until it falls, exuding a sense of power and magnifying the beauty intertwined with the structure.

Some things cannot be told by words—whether because your thought feels indescribable or because you fear the listener may not perceive it as you do in your mind. However, art is that which is. Art universally connects. No matter who you are, no matter the piece or the intent, it is unchanging.

Nevertheless, we are all experiencing life from our own unique perspectives—but I believe art is one of the most powerful tools of unity.

I’ve found life to be art created by the Creator. As each day passes, new memories form, new thoughts emerge, and the mind continues to grow—changing the way we create. With every waking moment, perception shifts and opportunities to see the light arise.
