Ella DeJong, Infront of her latest waterlily mural painting

About me.

My name is Ella DeJong.

I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, into an artistically inclined family, where I was homeschooled by my mother alongside my siblings. From the time I could barely walk, my creativity knew no boundaries, and I am deeply grateful for that foundation. It allowed me the freedom to explore, observe, and create intuitively from a very young age.

I am now living in Alabama, working full-time as an artist and running my own upcycled, eco-friendly custom clothing brand. Creating—whether through paint, fabric, or form—is not something I chose so much as something I am. I believe we are all artists by nature, and that making art connects us to our spirit and to love, offering a creative freedom that is priceless.

I am endlessly inspired by the beauty of God’s creation—by the artistry present in every moment, filled with mystery, intention, and love. My work aims to capture an essence of that magic. I view art as a story of the soul, written in the language of vision and color. Paint, to me, is a form of energy manipulation—moving emotion, thought, beauty, and love through the mind’s eye, with the power to heal and unite.

I primarily work with acrylic paint for its versatility, though I also enjoy exploring watercolor, spray paint, illustration, and textile-based work. My artistic style shifts fluidly between impressionism, realism, and abstraction. With constant growth comes constant change—that is my style. Each piece flows from a new wave of inspiration, spiraling toward something unseen. I am still growing and developing with every piece, and I hope that never ends.

I painted my first mural in 2020 at the age of fifteen and have been in love with the medium ever since. I have now completed ten murals, with hopes that number continues to grow. Immovable once imprinted, a mural stands with the foundation until it falls—exuding power and magnifying the beauty already woven into the structure.

Some things cannot be fully expressed through words—whether because a thought feels indescribable or because we fear it may not be perceived as it exists in our mind. Art simply is. It transcends language and connects universally. No matter who you are, or how differently we experience life, art remains a bridge.

I believe life itself is art created by the Creator. With each passing day, new memories form, perception shifts, and opportunities to see the light arise. As we grow, so does our way of creating—and through that, our ability to connect, heal, and unify.
